Mr. Akber Hossain is a retired civil servant of the Government of Bangladesh. He has more than 33 years of work experience in various positions in field administration and different Ministries. Mr. Hossain has unique and unparalleled knowledge, and expertise in the realms of financial inclusion, as well as poverty alleviation in rural Bangladesh. He has won many accolades for his contribution to alleviate the poverty and to promote the economic emancipation of the rural people of Bangladesh.
He was the founding Managing Director of PalliSanchay (Rural Savings) Bank - a state owned specialized bank for the rural poor. He also served as the National Project Director of the Ektee Bari Ektee Khamar (One House, One Farm) project of the Government - the largest poverty alleviation initiative in the country. This was eventually turned into PalliSanchay Bank after the completion of the project. He retired from government service as Additional Secretary of the Financial Institution Division of the Ministry of Finance. He obtained his Master of Science degree from University of Dhaka.
